Airing Of Grievances

SCREAM IT OUT! in an email.

"I got a lot of problems with you people..."

You know, it's not healthy to keep it all bottled up inside. So here, why don't I get us all started. Here's what's disappointed me this year (and we're only one month in);

1. People. In general, but this should probably be sub-divided into smaller sections of society for ease of finger-pointing;

1.1 Neighbours. How can they be so blinkered in their view of the world? I don't think I'm that ignorant of other peoples feelings or how what I might be doing might affect someone else. Maybe I am and I'm just too blinkered to see it myself.

1.2 People in supermarket queues. What major brain malfunction do these people have that, even though they've stood in a queue for up to 15 minutes doing nothing, that it all comes as a huge surprise that they've got to pay at the end of the transaction? Have they never shopped before and the whole concept is alien to them? And why do these same people store their purse or wallet within another 6 containers of various sorts and then can never decide if they should pay cash or credit card. And don't start me off on the loyalty card search that comes after...

1.3 People at the top of escalators or just inside doorways. I know, the exact moment I step off an escalator, with an unstoppable tide of people coming up behind me, I'll stop and wonder which way I should go next. I see no reason why I should step to one side or even think that there may be other people in my immediate vicinity who may be inconvenienced by my retarded actions....grrr...people.

1.4 People who change their walking trajectory immediately after getting ahead of you to cut across your path, therefore incurring an unavoidable tap to their ankle as you try vainly to pull up short of this unforeseeable occurrence. You are of course then met with a look of incredulity and anger at the contact made. Then to make matters even worse you apologise automatically! Anger...taking...over...

1.5 Ian McCue.

1.6 I'm sure there are loads more people subsections, but that will do for now.

2. Southeast Trains. How hard is it to make at the very least every other train run on time? Or even give warning when a train is going to be late or has been cancelled? Extremely hard by the looks of it. I know though, let's charge a fortune for the privilege of standing on a poorly lit, grubby, dated station platform in the freezing drizzle. Well done.

So, there you go. That kind of thing. I'm not sure if I feel better or worse for having got that off my chest, but hey, it's out there now, deal with it.

Feel free to add your own or even comment on mine and embellish if you wish. All we ask is that you keep any swearing to a minimum (or be creative with it) and don't make it personal – I’m the only one able to get away with 1.5 above (until Ian sees it). Also, let us know if you want to remain anonymous or have your name after your rant.

Now get out of my site...

Holly Yip adds;
On the subject of people: I cannot stand people who have no spacial awareness. for instance, when I'm walking along a London high st and I feel the need to overtake a slow gaggle of tourists (another grievance), I will do so as quickly as possible in order not to get in the way of oncoming pedestrians. But in the case of PEOPLE WITH NO SPACIAL AWARENESS, they overtake slower people and don't think to move out of the way for you, the oncoming pedestrian, and once they've attempted and failed to barge you down (there's nowhere for you to be barged to except backwards), they just give you a look as if you're a freshly made turd.

This also goes for rush hour morning in the tube. When you've just alighted from the carriage and there's a mad rush to the exit, most people know where they're going so it's quite a stampede. But there's always those people who don't (not that it's their fault) and they choose to go a few steps with the herd, so you assume it's safe to walk behind them, and then they decid that they'd like to stop (without moving out of the way of people behind them or even acknowledging that there's other people at all) and ponder whether they even like to leave the platform.

People with huge suitcases in rush hour tube carriages.

All people who are not sure about where they're going should go to the countryside where there's plenty of space to stop wherever they want whenever they want.
